Can Acupuncture Cure Joint Pain? We Answer Your Questions

Feeling an ache coming on in your shoulders, knees, or hips? Any long-term solution for joint pain is questionable. In fact, there may be more than one reason why you’re experiencing pain, from excessive exercising to autoimmune diseases. At Premiere Chiro, we’re here to tell you about one holistic treatment that helps you avoid pain killers and stimulate healing.

Acupuncture is an eastern-influenced treatment. Thin needles puncture the skin at localized points on the body to balance energy and stimulate damaged nerves, tissue, and muscles. According to Jordan Wheeler, a professor at the Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine College in Berkeley, California, recent studies show that acupuncture does cure joint pain. He shared his insights with Prevention.

What Causes Joint Pain?
Joint pain is caused by inflammation from injury, repetitive motion, poor diet, or conditions like rheumatoid arthritis. It can occur at any age but is likely to impact older adults. Acupuncture works to restore their body’s balance naturally. When applied by a professional, it works to improve pain in surrounding joints.

How Does Acupuncture Relieve Pain?
Acupuncture has been used for centuries to target the body with sterilized needles. When you visit our chiropractic in El Segundo, we will review your medical concerns and discuss how many treatments you may need. Usually, joint pain would require six to eight sessions.

Once treatment begins, the needles remain in place between 20 to 40 minutes. Throughout it, you lay in place until the acupuncturist removes them. Patients often describe feeling extraordinarily little pain once they’re in and when they get gently removed.

The reason doctors’ green light acupuncture is because it works well to minimize pains associated with conditions like:

  • Fibromyalgia
  • Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) – arthritis that affects the spine
  • Lupus
  • Gout

Because sterile needles get used per client, there is a low risk of infection. However, some people experience bruising or feel sore hours afterward.

Post-Session
You will see an immediate difference after your session. Patients leave feeling calmer and notice a decrease in pain. After each forthcoming treatment, the effects will last longer until the body heals completely. Keep in mind that acupuncture will take time, especially if you have had this condition for a long time.

However, if you feel that you aren’t noticing any improvement, make sure to bring it to your acupuncturist’s attention to use a different technique or increase the length of your session.
